Insulation and R-Value
Clopay insulates the Gallery Steel line with either polyurethane or polystyrene. The manufacturer states that insulation options include Intellicore polyurethane or classic polystyrene, providing R-values from 6.5 up to 18.4. Intellicore is a polyurethane foam injected into the door.
The insulation comes in two thicknesses. Clopay states the 2 inch or 1-3/8 inch thickness of Intellicore polyurethane or bonded polystyrene insulation and thermal break makes these doors heat and cold resistant. The thermal break limits heat transfer through the steel.
